Greg Rykowski Professional Bio
Greg Rykowski was born in Mielec, Poland, where, at the age of eight, he discovered his love for dancing. At this young age, he attended an arts magnet school where he began to learn Polish folk, Ballroom, Latin, ballet, jazz, modern, and tap dance.Greg dove head first into Ballroom dance.
Becoming a competitive 10-dancer was his main focus. Through the years, he competed as an amateur and won many championships in several age categories. Under the wing of his coach, Adam Berkowicz, he learned how to teach, and began teaching group classes at a young age. Greg received a dance degree in 1994 from an arts college in Poland. In March 1996, in England, he received a specialized certification as a teacher of Ballroom and Latin dance by the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. Later that same year, he moved to the United States.
Greg made Chicago his home, and worked at Kasper Dance Studio for five years. There he had opportunities to teach, perform, and compete with students locally. Soon after, he opened his own school, Greg Rykowski Dance Studio. With his students, he has competed and won in American and International Style Ballroom and Latin, on many levels, and in numerous championships and scholarships, all over the country. Greg continues to produce very strong and accomplished students.
In 2005, Greg found his first and only professional partner, Erin Marie. This perfect team, encouraged by many previous champions, currently competes professionally, pursuing major titles on the national professional Ballroom circuit. In 2006, they were Professional Latin and Professional Showdance Champions at the Great Race. Greg and Erin were also Professional Rising Star Smooth Champions in 2007 at the New Jersey State Open, and the Harvest Moon Ball. In that same year, they became Professional Open Smooth Champions at the Harvest Moon Ball, the Seattle Star Ball, and the Great Race. Finally, in a culmination of their hard work, Greg and Erin were United States Bronze Medallion Champions in the Nine-Dance Division in 2007.
Greg is available for teaching group and private lessons to all ages and all levels and is also available for shows. For more information go to the Contact page.
